Insurance Agent/Insurance Broker-Does It Make Any Difference?

Insurance can sometimes be a complicated issue, with all the insurance “jargon” and the many different aspects of insurance coverage which can apply in a particular situation. It is important to seek out an insurance professional, who not only has access to the market, but one who will act as an insurance advisor.

Agent or Broker?

An insurance professional is a very important member of your team of advisors. Take the time to find the right insurance agent or broker, who not only offers the products you need, but also one who will give you the service you deserve.

Insurance Agent

Insurance agents fall into one of two categories:

Captive Agent
This insurance agent usually works for one specific insurance company. All contracts for insurance are negotiated with this one insurer.

Independent Agent
This insurance agent may represent many different insurance companies and works in the client’s interest in finding the most appropriate insurance policy, at the best price.

Insurance Broker

An insurance broker does not work for any particular insurance company. Brokers are required to obtain a broker’s license with the appropriate state licensing authority and in the capacity of “broker”, may charge a broker fee for their services.
