According to a report published in August 2007 by the U. S. Census Bureau, Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2006, “Both the percentage and the number of people without health insurance increased in 2006.”
According to this U. S. Census Bureau report - “The percentage without health insurance increased from 15.3 percent in 2005 to 15.8 percent in 2006, and the number of uninsured increased from 44.8 million to 47.0 million.”
There are many reasons why people do not have health insurance coverage, some include:
- Ineligible for health insurance coverage due to health condition or other reasons
- Can’t afford to pay the high insurance premiums
- Health insurance coverage not offered by employer
- Employers cutting existing health insurance plans
