There are literally hundreds of insurance quote engines and insurance companies marketing their insurance quotes as the “cheapest ever” if you buy online, but are they really? In today’s fast paced life we buy everything online, but should we place our financial security in an insurance quote engine?

Things To Consider Before You Buy Insurance Online

Does the website where you are attempting to get an insurance quote really represent an insurance company?

If you are dealing with a major insurance company it is more than likely a legitimate insurance quote engine, but unfortunately, there are those people out there who seem to have nothing better to do than to steal other people’s personal information.

Are you really buying insurance?

It is very frustrating to spend the time entering a lot of personal information, hit the “Submit” button and get a message similar to this - “Thanks for your interest in our auto insurance, a company representative will contact you within 48 hours”.

Is your personal information secure?

No matter what type of insurance you are quoting - auto, home, life, health or business, you will be asked to furnish a lot of very personal information. Do you completely understand what this website will do with your information? Do you see a VeriSign or BBB logo on the page? Have you read the website’s Privacy Policy?

Do you really understand the insurance policy you are trying to buy?

There are a lot of “Terms and Conditions” and “Exclusions” in any type of property insurance. Does this website explain all of them?
Health insurance underwriting requires you to furnish part or all of your medical history and this makes it difficult to get the best premium online.

Who do you contact if you want to make changes to your insurance policy or just have questions or concerns?

More than likely, if you are successful in getting an insurance quote and actually get a policy issued, you will then be referred to an online customer service representative who may or may not be experienced in all types of insurance.

Yes, we can buy insurance online, but is that really the best way to protect our personal and/or business assets? There are many insurance agents in your city who will give you personalized service and this just may be worth the extra $20 per month.
